Print and online sources for regular coverage of local news, enewsletters, blogs and community information all providing display and classified advertising include: Idaho Mountain Express, Sunvalleyonline.com, and The Wood River Journal.

Magazines published in the Wood River Valley include Sun Valley Magazine, Sun Valley Art and Sun Valley Guide. The Times News and the Idaho Statesman are delivered daily to the area from Twin Falls and Boise respectively, offering international ,national wire service and state news. The Wall Street Journal and USA Today are delivered each morning. Sunday editions include papers from San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Salt Lake City.

A locally originated television stations, Plum TV airs on cable channel 13 in the Sun Valley area, supplementing network stations from around the state. A wide selection of other television and radio bands are available through the local cable outlet.

Wood River Radio, operating three radio stations, KECH, KSKI, and KYZK offer a variety of music, local news and advertising in the valley. Also KIKX serves the Southern Idaho region and includes the Wood River Valley. Two National Public Radio stations from Boise Sate University and Minneapolis, also service the area.

Other publications publishing regularly and offering information for visitors as well as residents include: Sun Valley Map Company, The Real Estate Guide, The Real Estate Magazine, Travelhost of Southern Idaho, and Travellog.


Transportation

Friedman Memorial Airport in Hailey serves the air transportation needs of the area's tourists and businesses with a runway length of 6,602 feet and an air traffic control tower.

Horizon Air and Sky West are the main carriers into the Sun Valley area. Horizon Air, the Alaska/Northwest Airlines connection, offers regularly scheduled flights from Seattle. Sky West, the Delta Connection, provides service from Salt Lake City.

Most national carriers serve Sun Valley's gateway cities of Boise and Salt Lake City. Serving Boise are Delta, Horizon, Sky West, Southwest, Northwest, AmericaWest, Continental, and United. Approximate air time from Boise is 35 minutes; from Salt Lake City, 60 minutes.

Charter air service is available in the valley from various private carriers. Winter charter service and tour operators regularly bring groups into the resort during the ski season.

The Sun Valley/Ketchum area is served by its own free public bus system, KART, the second busiest bus system in the state. Major rental car companies maintain outlets in the valley and gateway cities and a ground transportation operator Sun Valley Express, offers scheduled shuttle connections between the Boise Airport and the Wood River Valley. Other ground transportation charter service is also available.

Education

The Sun Valley area is served by highly skilled, conscientious educators and concerned parents who work to provide students with what we believe are the best educational opportunities in the state.

Blaine County School District serves the communities of Carey, Bellevue, Hailey, Ketchum, Sun Valley, Picabo, and Gannett. The public school system served 3,179 for the 2003-2004 school year, spending $9,494 per pupil, with a student/teacher ratio of 20:1. Blaine County students consistently rank above state and national average on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, studying under faculty recruited from all areas of the United States. The public schools work with both gifted and talented children and those with learning disabilities, offering access to computer labs and enrichment activities. Alpine and Nordic ski programs, recreational programs and traditional sports programs are offered.

Wood River High School offers both college preparatory and vocational training, as well as a distinguished scholar program. 75% of graduates go on to 4-year colleges with over 50% attending out-of-state schools.

All offer innovative curriculum, and a genuine commitment to excellence in education.

The Blaine County School District offers a program aimed at providing enrichment for 4-11 year old children as a before, during, and after daycare. It operates under the name KIDSHOP and is located in Bellevue, Hailey, and Ketchum. KIDSHOP is an activity oriented childcare program whose mission is to provide its children with a safe, pleasing environment and quality experiences.

The Silver Creek Alternative School offers an innovative approach to high school education. For the past nine years it has given "at risk" teens the opportunity to build confidence and self-esteem in a unique educational environment as the work towards a high school diploma.

A private preparatory school, The Community School, offers a diverse and challenging curriculum. In addition to a full academic schedule every year each student grades 6-12 spends several weeks off the campus in Yellowstone National Park, Canyon lands National Park in Utah and other natural classrooms studying everything from literature to biology, and geology. The Community School educates students in grades pre K-12 and its graduates currently attend Stanford, Middlebury, Dartmouth, Williams, and schools of similar stature. The College of Southern Idaho, a comprehensive community college campus in Twin Falls with an outreach center in Hailey, educates the diverse residents and encourages them to lead full, effective lives in a changing world. The college offers courses leading to Associate of Arts degrees, computer, adult enrichment, languages, ESL, vocational, GED, and children's classes. Counselling for careers, academic and business needs are also offered. All classes are small and highly individualised. CSI also works with businesses to set up custom employee training classes, which is aided by a microwave system that allows two-way interactive teaching between the home campus and the outreach center.

Bellevue, Hailey, and Ketchum all have public libraries. The Community Library in Ketchum is the area's largest with a 76,000 circulating collection. A member of the Interlibrary Loan System, it offers access to books from other national libraries, and also maintains a local collection of videotapes, cassettes, records, and talking books for borrowers and computers available to the public. Hailey Public Library has 22,000 materials also offering interlibrary loan services.

A selection of licensed day care centers and preschools provide facilities for families with young children. Eight preschools operate in the valley with many offering extended day care. Summer youth activities are also offered throughout the valley sponsored by the Blaine County Recreational District, City of Ketchum, Environmental Resource Center, and many others.
